Torrential rain hammers parts of Sharjah

Torrential rain, thunder storms and lightning hit parts of Sharjah on Tuesday.

A video posted by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) showed heavy rains in Al Madam and other areas.

The footage showed vehicles struggling to navigate roads with the storms creating treacherous conditions and poor visibility.

Other videos showed thunder storms and lightning strikes.

The NCM had warned of unstable conditions in the area with the possibility of rainfall.

"Low clouds will appear over the east coast by morning with a chance of some rainy convective clouds ... over the mountains eastward by afternoon," the NCM said on Tuesday.

It also forecast more unsettled conditions for the area until the weekend.

The major cities on the UAE's west coast have escaped major rains this year but downpours have occurred frequently in the east.
