Eid Al Adha sacrifices can now be made by smartphone app, authorities in Dubai have announced.

Users can both make donations for a whole sacrificial sheep or can request a quarter.

To request a sheep costs Dh780, while outside the UAE it will cost Dh350.

The Eid Sacrifice — Udhiyah service, on the Dubai Now app, was launched to ensure measures introduced to maintain physical distance are maintained, said Wesam Lootah, chief executive of Smart Dubai.

“This eliminates the need for them to physically visit charity centres, thereby maintaining safety and security through social distancing,” he said.

Sacrifices are a key part of the tradition of the Eid Al Adha, which is due to be celebrated on July 20.

The meat is traditionally shared between the family, friends and the underprivileged.
