200-year-old trees in UAE to be protected

A total of 63 trees that are more than 200 years old have been documented in a project to evaluate old, local trees in Dibba Al Fujairah.

The project is being run by the environment and natural reserves conservation division at Dibba Al Fujairah Municipality and it looked at Samar, Sidr and Ghaf trees.

The head of the municipality's conservation division, Fatima Al Hantoubi, said the project aims to ensure protection and care for local trees.

It also aims to conserve the biological diversity in the area as these large old trees are home to a number of animals.
