Ignacio "Nachi" Heguy highlighted the reason he is the highest-rated player in the President of the UAE Polo Cup with a stunning seven-goal haul Tuesday night.
The eight-goal handicap Argentine led Saudi Arabia's Zedan Polo to a 10-4 victory over Desert Palm, scoring three times in open play and four penalties over the four chukkas.
And he received solid support from Zedan's patron Amr Zedan, who scored three goals in open play.
Matias Machado and Martin Valent combined to score Desert Palm's goals.
In the second match, ADCB and Bin Drai played out a close game, which saw Bin Drai snatch the win in the final stages.
ADCB went into the third of four chukkas, leading by two goals, but Bin Drai found their rhythm in the third period, scoring three to go ahead by one goal.
Jorge Cernadas scored once more for ADCB in the final chukka bring the score to 4-4, but Bin Drai's Tomas Iriarte found the goal twice more as the match ended 6-4.
ADCB's Bruno Tassara said his side were disappointed to have lost such a tight match.
"Every match counts in this tournament and it is a shame to lose after an early lead but we won't dwell on this defeat. Now we look ahead to our next match and what we have to do to win that one."
Thursday's matches will see Bin Drai take on Sumaya and Ghantoot Land Rover play Zedan.
The President of the UAE Polo Cup, which is being staged at Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, features eight teams and is the largest polo tournament in the region.
The competition showcases he talents of emerging Emirati players as well as high-goal professionals from Argentina.
The final will take place on March 30 and all games, including the final, are free to attend and open to the public.
