Yousif Saeed scored in the last minute to give Sharjah a vital 2-1 win on Saturday night at bottom-placed Kalba to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
Paulo Bonamigo’s side moved five points clear of second-bottom Ajman, who were thrashed 7-1 by Al Ain on Friday night, while Kalba stay rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points.
After a turgid first half, it was Kalba who took the lead on the hour mark when Papa Waigo, the former Al Wahda striker, scored his first goal since joining the club in the winter transfer window. The Senegalese striker nodded home a cross from Said Fatah but Kalba’s lead lasted just two minutes.
It was Saeed who was at the heart of Sharjah’s first goal as he broke through and rounded the keeper.
The Emirati forward then squared the ball for Mario Silva who teed up Saif Al Shemili to equalise.
Saeed’s winner came from a corner as he rose above his marker to head home a Bader Abdulrahman delivery.
Earlier Al Dhafra and Fujairah played out a goalless draw.
