Manager Safet Susic, who led Bosnia-Herzegovina to their first World Cup, has hinted he will resign after his team's early exit. Susic said yesterday that "it is going to be difficult for me, but the day will come to bid my farewell to the team". He said he will announce a decision "in the next 10 days".
Susic, who coached Bosnia for the past three years, has been under strong criticism at home for his alleged tactical mistakes during matches against Argentina and Nigeria, which his team lost 2-1 and 1-0, respectively. Bosnia play Iran today in Salvador in their final group match.
Australia
Australia striker Adam Taggart is joining English Championship side Fulham after agreeing on a three-year deal to move to London from A-League side Newcastle Jets.
Taggart, 21, who started for Australia in their final World Cup Group B game against Spain in Curitiba on Monday, scored 16 goals to win the A-League’s Golden Boot award last season. “I’d like to thank everyone at the Newcastle Jets, including the players, staff and fans for their fantastic support over the past couple of seasons,” Taggart said in a statement on the Jets’ website. Fulham were relegated from the Premier League after finishing 19th last season.
United States
Jozy Altidore will miss the United States' game against Germany tomorrow because of his strained left hamstring. The forward was injured in the Americans' opening 2-1 win against Ghana on June 16 and did not play in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Portugal. US coach Jurgen Klinsmann said yesterday that if the Americans qualify for the knockout stage, "we'll have a good chance to have him back again". Germany have four points and lead Group G on goal difference over the US, while Portugal and Ghana have one point apiece.
Netherlands
Bruno Martins Indi returned to training for the Netherlands after missing the final group game with a concussion, indicating the defender may be available for the last 16 match with Mexico. Martins Indi worked out with the squad yesterday at the Dutch training ground in southern Rio de Janeiro. He sustained the concussion in the second group game against Australia and missed Monday's 2-0 win over Chile, which confirmed Netherlands as Group B winners with three wins from three. Captain and striker Robin van Persie also trained after sitting out the Chile game because of suspension.
Germany
Germany's Thomas Muller would like fans to know he is just fine after sustaining a nasty cut above his eye at the end of Saturday's draw against Ghana. A smiling Muller posted a picture of himself – complete with bandaged right eyebrow – on Twitter. He wrote: "Thanks for the many get-better wishes. Everything fine with me, even if I look a bit like a boxer."
Nigeria
Defender Joseph Yobo will become the first Nigerian to win 100 caps if he is picked for the World Cup Group F decider against Argentina. Yobo said ensuring Nigeria made the last 16 was his focus and not the personal record. He said on Monday in a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation that the milestone was “good news” but “what is uppermost in my mind is for the team to win and for us to advance to the next stage. The rest will be a bonus.” Yobo faces competition for a starting place from fit-again Godfrey Oboabona.

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid
Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.
