Wolfsburg’s director of sport Klaus Allofs says he can understand Kevin de Bruyne wanting to listen to what other clubs have to offer him, although he cannot see the Belgian international leaving the Bundesliga club just yet.
There was further speculation about the 24-year-old midfielder’s future this weekend with reports of a near £50 million (Dh284,2m) bid set to be tabled by Manchester City.
However, Wolfsburg do not need to sell and Allofs reiterated that they have no intention of depriving themselves of Germany’s reigning Player of the Year, although, at the same time, he can relate with his player’s open-mindedness.
Poll: What will be the result of West Brom v Manchester City?
"I think some other clubs have definitely turned Kevin's head," Allofs told Kicker magazine.
“Some huge figures are doing the rounds and I can understand why Kevin is leaving everything open.
“He’s got to listen to the offers. I can’t expect from him that he doesn’t even want to entertain them.”
However, the final decision rests with his club and Allofs has repeated over and over again that Wolfsburg, who finished runner’s up to Bayern Munich in the league last season, are not willing to sell.
At the same time, he knows it is going to be difficult to keep De Bruyne in Germany for the remainder of his four-year contract.
"If he was only contracted to us until 2017, then yes, it would be different," Allofs told the Wolfsburger Allgemeine newspaper. "But let's be honest about it, it's highly unlikely that he'll stay with us right up until 2019."
De Bruyne joined Wolfsburg for a fee of £18m in January 2014 and helped the club secure the German Cup last season as well as the German Super Cup last week with victory over Bayern.
