Sheikh Khalid races to podium
Abu Dhabi Racing driver Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi and co-driver Chris Patterson sealed a podium place at the Shiraz International Rally in Iran on Friday, finishing third in their Citroen DS 3 RRC. The duo maintained their overnight position at the end of the two-day event after pushing hard to try to improve their position in testing conditions. Three stages were cancelled following heavy rains on Thursday that rendered them unsafe for racing. Sheikh Khalid said: “It is unfortunate, but because of circumstances that were beyond anyone’s control three stages had to be cancelled and an already short rally was cut short further. So, given the circumstances, we are happy with where we finished.” Sheikh Khalid bin Faisal Al Qassimi will next race at the FIA World Rally Championship in Portugal from May 21-24.

Doubt on final taking place
Next Friday’s Nissan Rugby League Cup final appears to be in doubt because of administrative uncertainty surrounding the sport Friday night. The final fixture of the league campaign between Dubai Sharks and Xodus Wasps, which will decide who plays Al Ain Amblers in the final, was postponed for the second time. Both clubs are also affiliated to the UAE Rugby Federation in union. It is understood the postponement related to the recent ruling that league desist from using the terms “UAE rugby” in relation to their operations.
