UAE select 15-strong squad for Twenty20 World Cup

The Emirates Cricket Board has finalised the UAE squad that will compete at the ICC Twenty20 World Cup next month in Bangladesh.

Khurram Khan, fresh from leading the UAE to qualification for next year’s 50-over World Cup last month, will captain the 15-man squad, which will depart from Abu Dhabi on March 9.

The UAE are in Group B of the initial stage of the tournament, where they will face Zimbabwe, Ireland and the Netherlands. Group A features Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal and Hong Kong.

The winners of the two groups qualify for the Super 10 stage of the competition, where the eight leading nations join the proceedings.

The UAE’s first group match is against Netherlands on March 17, followed by their second match against Ireland on March 19. They play their last group match against Zimbabwe on March 21.

If they win the group, they would qualify for Group 1, where their opponents would be South Africa, Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand.

Before the tournament begins, the UAE will play a warm-up match against Bangladesh on March 12, followed by a match with Nepal on March 14.
