ABU DHABI // There is no official record of a schoolboy cricketer scoring over 2,000 runs in a season but Jonathan Figy has kept his own statistical records of achieving that milestone.
The left-handed opener amassed 2,075 in 36 tournament matches, including eight centuries, five of them in the Twenty20 format. He has remained not out 10 times and taken 24 wickets with his left-arm medium pacers.
He scored a century on his debut match for Zayed Cricket Academy (ZCA) in an Under 13 tournament conducted by the Sharjah Cricket Council in 2013.

Jonathan, who turns 15 in August and is widely observed as a potential batting talent, has been in sparkling form for both Abu Dhabi Indian School and Zayed Cricket Academy this season.
“In terms of scoring runs it has indeed been the best season for me, but I still have bigger goals and objectives to achieve in cricket,” he said.
“One of those objectives would certainly to be in the UAE age-group squad. Now the season is done, I plan to work on my fitness and improve my skill levels during the summer break and, hopefully, return stronger both physically and mentally for next season.”
Promoted to play against older boys for his outstanding talent and skills from a younger age, Jonathan has matured quickly and is a permanent member of ZCA’s elite squad.
He warrants a place in the UAE age-group team for his performances in both the U16 and U19 Inter-Emirates national tournaments, the highlight of which was his 63 against Dubai in the U19 final.
“I have been more consistent and been able to score almost in every match this season,” he said.
“I think I’m mentally stronger and more confident player. This may have come with age, or perhaps, I have been playing against older and stronger players at a younger age.
“I feel I have been quite fortunate too for the opportunities that came my way ever since I joined the academy. All my coaches saw some potential in me and then they started to provide me the opportunities to play at the higher level.
“It really has helped me. I was given the opportunity to play in the inaugural Inter-Emirate national tournament last year and I believe my game picked up from there onwards.”
