The UAE will have been heartened by their performance despite slipping to a four wicket defeat to hosts Bangladesh yesterday, in their first warm up match since arriving in Dhaka.
Khurram Khan, who missed last week’s final preparatory games in the UAE as he was working abroad as part of Emirates’ flight crew, hit 44 as the UAE made 142 for seven.
Tamim Iqbal then made 43 at the top of the order in reply for the host nation. The Bangladeshis were in trouble when Manjula Guruge took two wickets with the new ball and Amjad Javed also took two cheaply, but they secured victory with seven balls to spare.
Mahmudullah added an unbeaten 29.
UAE openers Faizan Asif (31) and Amjad Ali (19) combined for a half century and Shaiman Anwar pitched in another 19 before being caught out by Iqbal from an Al-Amin Hossain delivery.
Farhad Reza took two wickets for the hosts but served up 25 runs in two overs. Rubel Hossain’s 4.25 economy rate from four overs and a wicket proved their most complete bowling performance.
The national team face Nepal in their final friendly match tomorrow before the tournament starts with a fixture against Netherlands in Sylhet on Monday.
