The Detroit Tigers roared from behind on Placido Polanco's three-run, eighth-inning homer to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 and give Justin Verlander his 15th win of the season on Sunday.
Polanco drilled a two-out pitch off reliever Grant Balfour over the left field fence to rally the American League Central Division leaders from a 3-1 deficit.
Verlander (15-7) worked eight innings to join the Yankees' CC Sabathia as the league's only 15-game winners.
The right-hander survived a pair of fourth-inning home runs by the Rays while striking out four and walking three. He gave up six hits.
Curtis Granderson's third-inning single put the Tigers on the scoreboard first.
Tampa Bay responded with Evan Longoria's solo homer and a two-run blast by Akinori Iwamura in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead before Verlander stopped their dangerous onslaught.
"That's as good as it gets. Bottom of the eighth inning, home crowd, down a run or whatever it is, and all of sudden you get that one that puts you ahead," the Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said.
"That's big to send everyone home happy. Those are dramatic-type things, and they happen in a game - you just don't know when they're going to happen."
John Lackey allowed only one unearned run as American League West table-toppers Los Angeles Angels dominated Oakland.
Torii Hunter and Kendry Morales each hit a three-run homer in the 9-1 victory, with Morales setting a team record of 33 RBIs in August.

What is myofascial pain syndrome?
Myofascial pain syndrome refers to pain and inflammation in the body’s soft tissue. MPS is a chronic condition that affects the fascia (connective tissue that covers the muscles, which develops knots, also known as trigger points).
What are trigger points?
Trigger points are irritable knots in the soft tissue that covers muscle tissue. Through injury or overuse, muscle fibres contract as a reactive and protective measure, creating tension in the form of hard and, palpable nodules. Overuse and sustained posture are the main culprits in developing trigger points.
What is myofascial or trigger-point release?
Releasing these nodules requires a hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure to release muscular shortness and tightness. This eliminates restrictions in connective tissue in orderto restore motion and alleviate pain. Therapy balls have proven effective at causing enough commotion in the tissue, prompting the release of these hard knots.
What is Genes in Space?
Genes in Space is an annual competition first launched by the UAE Space Agency, The National and Boeing in 2015.
It challenges school pupils to design experiments to be conducted in space and it aims to encourage future talent for the UAE’s fledgling space industry. Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
