Andy Murray overcame a stiff challenge from Janko Tipsarevic to reach the quarter-finals of the Aegon Championships at the Queen's Club in London, yesterday.
And he showed no signs of injury to his right ankle, though it was heavily strapped and braced, and he admitted to taking anti-inflammatories.
The British No 1 had his serve broken in the first game of each set but he recovered with some aggressive tennis to beat the Serbian 14th seed 6-4 7-6 (7-3).
"It was a high-quality match. We both played well, especially at the end of the second set. It was a big test," said Murray, who had questioned whether he should even be playing at Queen's Club this week after damaging his right ankle en route to the French Open semi-finals.
The 24 year old admitted after last night's three-set win over Xavier Malisse that, in an ideal world, he would be resting this week and treating the damaged tendon.
But Wimbledon starts in less than a fortnight and Murray also needs time on grass courts in order to adapt properly from the clay surface at Roland Garros.
"The ankle was the best it's felt today," he said.
Murray was not altogether convincing in holding his second service game but he then broke Tipsarevic twice, either side of a rain delay, to take the first set.
And Andy Roddick remains in the hunt for a record fifth Queen's crown after advancing to the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over South Africa's Kevin Anderson.
Since his last Queen's triumph, back in 2007, Roddick has been trying to break the record for most singles' titles at the Wimbledon warm-up event which he currently shares with six other players including John McEnroe, Boris Becker and Lleyton Hewitt.
The American has endured a dispiriting 2011 campaign marred by a right-shoulder injury that led him to miss the French Open.
"Obviously, I come here with Wimbledon as the end goal. This is preparation but at the same time it's a very important tournament for me," Roddick said.
He will face Fernando Verdasco, who beat David Nalbandian 7-5 6-1. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play either Rafael Nadal or Radek Stepanek in the quarter-finals.
