Roger Federer overcomes battling Marton Fucsovics to reach last four
Roger Federer is through to the semi-finals but it was not all plain sailing for the seven-time Dubai champion as he defeated Marton Fucsovics 7-6, 6-4.
The world No 7 had to save two break points in the first set before winning it on a tie-break as his Hungarian opponent put up stiff resistance.
Federer looked to be in control after breaking in the first game of the second set, but world No 35 Fucsovics hit back in the fourth game.
But Federer finally broke again in an epic ninth game, taking it with his fifth break point, and he served it out to win.
Federer, the No 2 seed in the tournament, will face either No 6 seed Borna Coric or Nikoloz Basilashvili on Friday for a place in Saturday's final.
Stefanos Tsitsipas too strong for Hubert Hurkacz
Stefanos Tsitsipas remains on course to win back-to-back ATP titles after reaching the semi-finals in Dubai.
The world No 11 defeated Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 on Centre Court to set up a last-four meeting with Gael Monfils on Friday.
Tsitsipas, the No 5 seed in Dubai, was broken in the third game of the match, but immediately hit back with a break of his own against the world No 77, who had beaten top seed Kei Nishikori on Wednesday.
There were no further breaks in the set but Tsitsipas claimed it on the tie-break 7-4.
He broke Hurkacz in the third game of the second set, but the Pole showed impressive tenacity to break the Greek in the 10th game as he served for the match, and then won the tie-break 7-1 to force a decider.
But Tsitsipas was not to be denied as he won the first five games of the final set as he clinched victory.
Tsitsipas won in Marseille last week and is now on a seven-match winning run.
Gael Monfils survives wobble to beat Ricardas Berankis
Monfils reached the semi-finals as he ended the unlikely run of Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 success.
Berankis, the world No 113, had been one of the surprise packages of the tournament, after beating No 8 seed Daniil Medvedev in the first round and then Denis Kudla in the last 16.
But in-form Monfils, who had won in Rotterdam earlier in February, proved a step too far for Berankis as the Frenchman proved ultimately prevailed after a mid-match wobble on Centre Court.
Two breaks of serve in the first set saw the world No 23 take it in just 25 minutes.
Bernakis hinted at a fightback as he went 4-1 in the second set, but Monfils reeled off five games in a row to leave himself serving for the match.
But Berankis broke back to force a tie-break and he won it 7-3 to force a deciding set.
Monfils appeared to be in trouble again when Berankis forced the first break in the third game of the final set.
But the Frenchman again rallied and won the final five games to secure his spot in the last four.
