Ahmed Al Hameli and Thani Al Qamzi clinched a Team Abu Dhabi one-two finish in the Grand Prix of Sharjah.
The UIM F1 H20 World Championship title race was decided by a first-lap collision between Alex Carella and Jay Price, the Qatar Team contenders.
The final round of the season, at Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah yesterday, had been previewed as the showdown between Carella and Price.
Carella led by five points going into the 37-lap race and made the better start into the first couple of turns.
But the duo came together spectacularly at Turn 3 and were both sidelined, the incident handing the world title to Carella.
This enabled Team Abu Dhabi to control the race from the front of the field, with Al Hameli eventually beating Al Qamzi by just over three seconds to confirm third and fourth in the World Championship for the Team Abu Dhabi duo.
"The plan was to win the race and spoil the Qatar party," said Al Hameli, whose final four races of the season produced a pair of wins and two finishes of second.
Al Qamzi added to the team's success by recording the fastest lap and taking maximum points in the Fast Lap Slam Trophy.
