AHMEDABAD // Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid produced centuries in contrasting styles to help India dominate the opening day of the first test against New Zealand on Thursday.
Sehwag made a well-paced 173 while Dravid compiled a steady 104 as the home side reached 329-3 after electing to bat first on a good batting pitch at the Sardar Patel Stadium.
Sachin Tendulkar (13) and VVS Laxman (7) were not out at the close.
The top-ranked Indian side are the favourites in the three-Test series, having just beaten Australia 2-0 in a two-Test home series.
The remaining two Tests are to be held in Hyderabad and Nagpur.

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
