The National’s Sport cover for the Saturday, July 18 issue, featuring a weather-hit St Andrews as the second round of the 2015 Open Championship has struggled to progress.
Friday morning saw a long delay as a downpour drenched the Old Course, while early Saturday – as Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, among others, tried to finish their rounds from the night previous – strong winds one again interrupted play.
“We should never have started,” Spieth was heard muttering as he was informed of the decision to halt play again on Saturday.
Englishman Danny Willett, with a 9-under 135 through two complete rounds, is The Open’s leader so far. He is joined at 9-under by Johnson, through 15 holes of his second round.
Scotsman Paul Lawrie, at 8-under and through 13 second round holes, is third.
