The love affair is over.
More than 80 per cent of Real Madrid fans no longer want Jose Mourinho in charge of their club.
Various newspapers and websites from the Madrid media have sampled opinion, and it does not look good for the Portuguese.
The mood is so bleak because football is a results-driven business and Madrid's results have not been good.
Their 3-2 defeat to Malaga at the weekend was their fourth away from home in the Primera Liga this season and they are now 16 points behind Barcelona.
The league is over, but Madrid fans are doubly angry because Iker Casillas, their goalkeeper, the captain of club and country, was dropped.
That had not happened for a significant match for over a decade, since Casillas, then 21, did not start in the 2002 Champions League final.
Mourinho claims that his conscience is clear when it comes to Casillas, a fan hero and club legend who represents what they see as the embodiment of modern Madrid. He has made tough decisions before and stuck by them. But was it a technical decision as he claimed?
Or is Mourinho distrustful of his captain and the most powerful man in his dressing room? Is that why Mourinho questioned Casillas's captaincy when he first arrived in 2010?
Mourinho has fought political battles at the Bernabeu since he arrived. He has won them all, because he could always threaten to walk away from a job he was doing well. But his own players can do exactly the same.
If they leave Madrid they will have other options. That is if they choose not to sit on their huge contracts and sulk. The players will take criticism - to a point.
They will accept Mourinho's foibles when they are winning, but question him when they do not.
Madrid's goalkeeping situation is strange.
If Mourinho was so unhappy with Casillas's performances - which have been as excellent as ever - then why has he not bought a capable backup goalkeeper for two years? Antonio Adan, the man picked to play in Malaga, is inexperienced and it showed.
Online discontent from fickle followers is one thing, discontent from hard-core, match-going fans in the stadium another.
Mourinho was booed at the recent cup game against Alcoyano. It will continue unless the team start winning again.
Or until he lifts a 10th European Cup at Wembley in May.

Gender equality in the workplace still 200 years away
It will take centuries to achieve gender parity in workplaces around the globe, according to a December report from the World Economic Forum.
The WEF study said there had been some improvements in wage equality in 2018 compared to 2017, when the global gender gap widened for the first time in a decade.
But it warned that these were offset by declining representation of women in politics, coupled with greater inequality in their access to health and education.
At current rates, the global gender gap across a range of areas will not close for another 108 years, while it is expected to take 202 years to close the workplace gap, WEF found.
The Geneva-based organisation's annual report tracked disparities between the sexes in 149 countries across four areas: education, health, economic opportunity and political empowerment.
After years of advances in education, health and political representation, women registered setbacks in all three areas this year, WEF said.
Only in the area of economic opportunity did the gender gap narrow somewhat, although there is not much to celebrate, with the global wage gap narrowing to nearly 51 per cent.
And the number of women in leadership roles has risen to 34 per cent globally, WEF said.
At the same time, the report showed there are now proportionately fewer women than men participating in the workforce, suggesting that automation is having a disproportionate impact on jobs traditionally performed by women.
And women are significantly under-represented in growing areas of employment that require science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills, WEF said.

Pharaoh's curse
British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon, who funded the expedition to find the Tutankhamun tomb, died in a Cairo hotel four months after the crypt was opened.
He had been in poor health for many years after a car crash, and a mosquito bite made worse by a shaving cut led to blood poisoning and pneumonia.
Reports at the time said Lord Carnarvon suffered from “pain as the inflammation affected the nasal passages and eyes”.
Decades later, scientists contended he had died of aspergillosis after inhaling spores of the fungus aspergillus in the tomb, which can lie dormant for months. The fact several others who entered were also found dead withiin a short time led to the myth of the curse.

The National photo project
Chris Whiteoak, a photographer at The National, spent months taking some of Jacqui Allan's props around the UAE, positioning them perfectly in front of some of the country's most recognisable landmarks. He placed a pirate on Kite Beach, in front of the Burj Al Arab, the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland at the Burj Khalifa, and brought one of Allan's snails (Freddie, which represents her grandfather) to the Dubai Frame. In Abu Dhabi, a dinosaur went to Al Ain's Jebel Hafeet. And a flamingo was taken all the way to the Hatta Mountains. This special project suitably brings to life the quirky nature of Allan's prop shop (and Allan herself!).
