Real Madrid's Dutch contingent appear to be the Bernabeu's book-balancing casualties following Florentine Perez's free-spending summer. With unwanted Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's anticipated departure temporarily stalling, Holland's Rafael van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder are the latest midfield maestros linked with Spanish exits. The highly-rated duo will attract interest from leading English, Italian and German clubs, and although Sneijder's agent is relaying mixed messages on the 26-year-old playmaker's future, van der Vaart's availability is not in doubt to would-be suitors.
"[Real coach Manuel] Pellegrini told me I won't get much chance to play, so it's not an option to stay - I will play at a new club," said van der Vaart - who could return to Hamburg only 12 months after leaving for £8 million (Dh49.7m). Sneijder's displeasure at Real's exorbitant close-season spending has also thrown the attacking midfielder's future into doubt, and the player's agent, Soren Lerby, admitted last week he will leave if first-team opportunities diminish. "Big players needs to play regularly and that may not happen," Lerby said.
Sneijder has since been linked to an Inter Milan team flush with funds from Zlatan Ibrahimovic's transfer to Barcelona. His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
