Rules to stop teams repeating Sharjah's controversial move of pulling out of the AFC Champions League during the tournament are being planned by the UAE Football Association. Mohammed Khalfan al Rumaithi, the president of the UAE FA, has promised tough new regulations from the next season to "eliminate the phenomenon of teams withdrawing from competitions". The UAE FA were powerless to act as Sharjah withdrew from the AFC Champions League last week after four crushing defeats had left them with no hope of progressing. They said their relegation battle at home was more important. With no regulations to deal with such issues, the football chiefs could only plead with Sharjah to rethink a decision which has harmed the image of UAE football.
Chastened by the experience, the UAE FA have decided to impose new regulations from the start of next season, which would include significant penalties on clubs withdrawing from tournaments, without proper justification for the move. "The new regulations will be revealed later this month and will be applied from the next season," al Rumaithi said in Kuala Lumpur, where he is attending the 23rd Asian Football Confederation Congress.
"We want to eliminate this phenomenon of withdrawals, and the punishment for any club withdrawing from any competition, Asian or Gulf, will be great." Sharjah face a minimum one-year ban from Asian football for their decision, and a host of other fines and compensation claims from the AFC. "We will not intervene to ease Sharjah's punishment," said al Rumaithi. "We tried our best to convince them to change their mind, but they paid no heed."
Meanwhile, al Rumaithi has revealed that the UAE FA are in talks with 10 candidates for the post of the national team coach, which will be vacated by Dominique Bathenay after the end of his tenure in next month. "We will announce the name of the new coach soon," he said. "We have got 10 candidates and will pick the one who has the best understanding of Arab and UAE football." Among the candidates being considered are Egyptian legend Mahmoud al Gohary, Tunisian Abdelmajid Chetali and Arrigo Sacchi, the former Italy and AC Milan coach.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

What is a robo-adviser?
Robo-advisers use an online sign-up process to gauge an investor’s risk tolerance by feeding information such as their age, income, saving goals and investment history into an algorithm, which then assigns them an investment portfolio, ranging from more conservative to higher risk ones.
These portfolios are made up of exchange traded funds (ETFs) with exposure to indices such as US and global equities, fixed-income products like bonds, though exposure to real estate, commodity ETFs or gold is also possible.

How to keep control of your emotions

Greed
Greedy investors trade beyond their means, open more positions than usual or hold on to positions too long to chase an even greater gain. “All too often, they incur a heavy loss and may even wipe out the profit already made.
Tip: Ignore the short-term hype, noise and froth and invest for the long-term plan, based on sound fundamentals.
Fear
The risk of making a loss can cloud decision-making. “This can cause you to close out a position too early, or miss out on a profit by being too afraid to open a trade,” he says.
Tip: Start with a plan, and stick to it. For added security, consider placing stops to reduce any losses and limits to lock in profits.
Hope
While all traders need hope to start trading, excessive optimism can backfire. Too many traders hold on to a losing trade because they believe that it will reverse its trend and become profitable.
Tip: Set realistic goals. Be happy with what you have earned, rather than frustrated by what you could have earned.
Frustration
Traders can get annoyed when the markets have behaved in unexpected ways and generates losses or fails to deliver anticipated gains.
Tip: Accept in advance that asset price movements are completely unpredictable and you will suffer losses at some point. These can be managed, say, by attaching stops and limits to your trades.
Boredom
Too many investors buy and sell because they want something to do. They are trading as entertainment, rather than in the hope of making money. As well as making bad decisions, the extra dealing charges eat into returns.

Who are the Sacklers?
The Sackler family is a transatlantic dynasty that owns Purdue Pharma, which manufactures and markets OxyContin, one of the drugs at the centre of America's opioids crisis. The family is well known for their generous philanthropy towards the world's top cultural institutions, including Guggenheim Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, Tate in Britain, Yale University and the Serpentine Gallery, to name a few. Two branches of the family control Purdue Pharma.
Isaac Sackler and Sophie Greenberg were Jewish immigrants who arrived in New York before the First World War. They had three sons. The first, Arthur, died before OxyContin was invented. The second, Mortimer, who died aged 93 in 2010, was a former chief executive of Purdue Pharma. The third, Raymond, died aged 97 in 2017 and was also a former chief executive of Purdue Pharma.
It was Arthur, a psychiatrist and pharmaceutical marketeer, who started the family business dynasty. He and his brothers bought a small company called Purdue Frederick; among their first products were laxatives and prescription earwax remover.

Why your domicile status is important

How to join and use Abu Dhabi’s public libraries
• There are six libraries in Abu Dhabi emirate run by the Department of Culture and Tourism, including one in Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
• Libraries are free to visit and visitors can consult books, use online resources and study there. Most are open from 8am to 8pm on weekdays, closed on Fridays and have variable hours on Saturdays, except for Qasr Al Watan which is open from 10am to 8pm every day.
• In order to borrow books, visitors must join the service by providing a passport photograph, Emirates ID and a refundable deposit of Dh400. Members can borrow five books for three weeks, all of which are renewable up to two times online.
