Daegu, South Korea // Australia's Sally Pearson was equally as impressive as Usain Bolt in winning the 100 metres hurdles title.
Pearson claimed gold Saturday with a stunning run and new championship record of 12.28 seconds, the fourth fastest of all-time and just 0.07 secs off the 23-year-old women's world record.
"I've wanted this so badly throughout the whole year and I'm so glad it went right on the night," Pearson said. "I said I would do a personal best in the final and I made sure I did that tonight."
American Danielle Carruthers took silver ahead of compatriot Dawn Harper, with both given the same time of 12.47.
Earlier Saturday evening, a masterclass in middle-distance running saw Kenya's Asbel Kiprop add the world 1,500m title to his Olympic crown. The 22-year-old Kenyan stood firm in the sprint for home, with compatriot Silas Kiplagat taking silver and the American, Matthew Centrowitz, bronze.
Remarkably, it was the first time a Kenyan has won the 1,500m event at the worlds.
