PORTSMOUTH // An own goal from Noe Pamarot denied Tony Adams a first home victory as the Portsmouth manager as they were held to a draw by Hull at Fratton Park. A superb 25-yard volley from Glen Johnson in the 63rd minute had looked as if would be enough for the home side to take the points, but three minutes from the end Pamarot and Hull substitute Dean Windass contested a loose ball, and the ball bounced into the empty net past goalkeeper David James, with the last touch coming off the Portsmouth man.
Peter Crouch's header had given Portsmouth a first half lead, which was cancelled out after the break by Michael Turner before Johnson struck from distance.
MIDDLESBROUGH // Johan Elmander capped a fine Bolton performance with his second goal of the season as Gary Megson's men romped to an impressive victory at the Riverside Stadium. Kevin Davies and Matt Taylor had got the visitors off to a storming start with two goals in the first 10 minutes as shell-shocked Boro struggled to cope. Gareth Southgate's side tried to hit back and Gary O'Neil had an effort cleared off the line as the home side looked for a way back into the game. The winger Stewart Downing thought he had set up a grandstand finish with his strike in the 75th minute, but Elmander crashed home from close range to seal the win two minutes later.
STOKE // Mamady Sidibe headed a late winner for Stoke as they condemned bottom side West Bromwich Albion to a third successive defeat. The rematch between the top two in last season's Coca-Cola Championship fell some way short of top-flight standards for long periods in a match heavy on industry but short on attacking flair. Stoke spent much of the second half attempting to tease a mistake out of goalkeeper Scott Carson, following his blunder for England in midweek, but when the winner came it was the Albion defence that made Sidibe's job too easy.
The striker was allowed to head home a Danny Higginbotham cross six minutes from time. * PA Sport
