Dubai resident Mounir Lazzez has had to withdraw from his second UFC appearance later this month after testing positive for Covid-19.
The Tunisian, one of the breakout stars at the inaugural Fight Island in July, was slated to take on David Zawada at UFC Fight Night on October 18 – the penultimate event in the promotion’s second residency in the capital.
However, a recent positive test means Lazzez will have to wait to feature in the UFC again. Despite the incredibly unfortunate development, sources close to the fighter said he is focused on getting healthy and hopes to make a return to the promotion at a later date.
A former Desert Force welterweight champion, Lazzez debuted in the UFC on July 16, prevailing by unanimous decision against the returning, but experienced, Abdul Razak Alhassan. The performance earned Lazzez a "fight of the night" bonus, with the promotion quickly seeking to book him a second bout.
As present, his professional mixed martial arts record reads 10-1. Zawada, meanwhile, has competed in the UFC three times previously. His overall pro record stands at 17-5.
Speaking to The National during Fight Island 1, UFC president Dana White praised Lazzez’s display on debut, saying he could serve as a catalyst for more regional talent to emerge.
"Look at what happened: Arab talent is actually starting to win," White said. "Lazzez won a legit fight against a very, very tough opponent. They ended up being Fight of the Night.
“So now, after us being in this market for 10 to 12 years, you're starting to see real talent coming out of here now too, which is just another indicator of how big the possibilities are here in the Middle East."
The October 18 event is headlined by featherweight contenders Brian Ortega and Jung Chan-sung, the latter more popularly known as “The Korean Zombie”. Jessica Andrade, the former strawweight champion who also competed at Fight Island this summer, is expected to take on Katlyn Chookagian at flyweight.
“Return to Fight Island” continues this Sunday with a UFC Fight Night headlined by Marlon Moraes and Cody Sandhagen, with the series concluding on October 25 with UFC 254.
The card, which for the first time in five years features six bouts at the top of the show, is headlined by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov's unification encounter with interim belt-holder Justin Gaethje.
“Return to Fight Island” began on September 27, with UFC 253.

The five stages of early child’s play
From Dubai-based clinical psychologist Daniella Salazar:
1. Solitary Play: This is where Infants and toddlers start to play on their own without seeming to notice the people around them. This is the beginning of play.
2. Onlooker play: This occurs where the toddler enjoys watching other people play. There doesn’t necessarily need to be any effort to begin play. They are learning how to imitate behaviours from others. This type of play may also appear in children who are more shy and introverted.
3. Parallel Play: This generally starts when children begin playing side-by-side without any interaction. Even though they aren’t physically interacting they are paying attention to each other. This is the beginning of the desire to be with other children.
4. Associative Play: At around age four or five, children become more interested in each other than in toys and begin to interact more. In this stage children start asking questions and talking about the different activities they are engaging in. They realise they have similar goals in play such as building a tower or playing with cars.
5. Social Play: In this stage children are starting to socialise more. They begin to share ideas and follow certain rules in a game. They slowly learn the definition of teamwork. They get to engage in basic social skills and interests begin to lead social interactions.

When Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi
Known as The Lady of Arabic Song, Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi on November 28, 1971, as part of celebrations for the fifth anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as Ruler of Abu Dhabi. A concert hall was constructed for the event on land that is now Al Nahyan Stadium, behind Al Wahda Mall. The audience were treated to many of Kulthum's most well-known songs as part of the sold-out show, including Aghadan Alqak and Enta Omri.

Baby boomers (those born before 1964): Owing to market uncertainty and the need to survive amid competition, many in this generation are looking for options to hoard more cash and increase their overall savings/investments towards risk-free assets.
Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980): Gen X is currently in its prime working years. With their personal and family finances taking a hit, Generation X is looking at multiple options, including taking out short-term loan facilities with competitive interest rates instead of dipping into their savings account.
Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996): This market situation is giving them a valuable lesson about investing early. Many millennials who had previously not saved or invested are looking to start doing so now.
