There was an unlikely match-winning goalscorer in the Premier League this week when Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker enjoyed a match to remember against West Bromwich Albion.

Liverpool were heading for a frustrating draw against the already relegated Baggies at The Hawthorns, a result that would have put a huge dent in the Merseysiders hopes of securing a top-four spot.

But the Brazilian goalkeeper went up for a corner deep into injury time and wrapped his head around a Trent-Alexander cross to earn his team three vital points. "It was a very special moment, a very special goal from a very special player," said manager Jurgen Klopp.

It has been a mixed week for tennis's Big Three on the ATP Tour before the upcoming French Open.

At the Italian Open in Rome, clay-court king Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic to secure a record-extending 10th title in Rome.

Nadal escaped injury after tripping over a raised line during the contest that saw him overcome the world No 1 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 – a win that also equalled Djokovic's record of 36 ATP Masters 1000 titles.

No such joy for 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, who lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to Span's Pablo Andujar in the Geneva Open.

It was the Swiss superstar's first match since his comeback in March and he admitted afterwards: "I know I will not win the French and whoever thought I would or could win it is wrong."

In Formula One, what promised to be a weekend to remember at the Monaco Grand Prix for Charles Leclerc turned into one he will quickly want to forget.

In his home GP, Leclerc secured pole position despite crashing during qualifying but joy turned to misery when the 23-year-old was forced to drop out just before the start of the race due to problems with his Ferrari. The race was won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
