Emirati trio begin Emirates Desert Championship out in front



Emiratis took first place in each of the cars, bikes and quads over the weekend in the frst round of the Emirates Desert Championship, in the Al Qudra are of Dubai.

Ahmad Al Fahim began the first of the six-leg series with a victory in the cars, with the defending champion in the UAE Baja rally series beating out countryman Mansour Al Helei in his Polaris buggy by 1min 37sec.

In the bikes, Mohammed Al Balooshi rode his KTM past Mohammed Jaffar with a 1min, 39sec edge. Humaid Al Mashghouni finished ahead of favourite Sebastian Husseini – the third-place finisher at this year’s Dakar Rally – by 50.74sec in the quads on a Honda.

The line-up included 100 participants across the three specialisations to kick off the second staging of the series.
