SILVERSTONE // Fernando Alonso, the double world champion, is hoping there will be "good news for everybody" today as the crisis in Formula One comes to a crucial point. Max Mosley, the president of the FIA, has attempted to resolve the row with a new compromise deal over the governing body's proposed regulations for the 2010 championship. Alonso's team Renault, McLaren, BMW Sauber, Toyota and the championship leaders Brawn GP, must all agree and submit unconditional entries today or they will not be accepted into next year's championship.

Alonso admits the outcome will affect the drivers for Sunday's British Grand Prix if it is not resolved amicably. "Yes, it will be on our mind," he said. "If we don't race in Formula One next year, it changes many things. "It's not the same. We know we will race, but it will be different. "The new Formula One with new teams and no drivers is not attractive. We all want to compete with the best teams, the maximum technology and against the best drivers in the world.

"Of course, I will take part in a new FOTA series. If there is no new series, I will not join the new Formula One with these small teams. This is not the category we have loved for the past 60 years. "But I will not retire from racing. I will drive in another championship. There are more categories and hopefully I will find an attractive one outside Formula One, outside Europe. I will keep racing. I am only 27."

He added: "We all want to hear they have found a solution in the last moment and we will all race next year. "I know it's a difficult time, a critical moment and we need to be ready for any type of decision. But I hope there is good news for everybody." @Email:akhan@thenational.ae
