• What: From April 15 to 24, more than 6,000 competitors will gather for the Abu Dhabi Festival for Kids, the inaugural Abu Dhabi World Youth Cup, the eighth Abu Dhabi World Professional Championship and the inaugural Legends tournament.

• Tickets: Entrance is free and the entry ticket gives the holder a place in a daily raffle draw for prizes that include a Jaguar XF car.

• On TV: Follow the action live on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.
• What's going on here? The first four days will see action from the Abu Dhabi Festival for Kids and Abu Dhabi World Youth Cup followed by the eighth staging of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Championships in the next five days. The organisers have also included a new event for the Legends on the final day. There will be a fan zone that will provide family entertainment and other activities.
• Will we see the big stars? The best in the world in both the men's and women's categories will be heading to Abu Dhabi for this tournament and a slice of the Dh2.5 million prize money.
• Format: Single elimination competition with the winner declared by either submission, points or by referee's decision.

Stars to watch
• Marcus Almeida: The three-time champion of the absolute division is returning to defend the title. The Brazilian won double gold the past two years in Abu Dhabi in the 100kg weight and absolute class.
• Rodolfo Veira: The Brazilian was runner-up twice here, in 2013 and 2014, to Almeida in the absolute class after winning the open weight division in 2011 and 2012. He was a last-minute withdrawal last year because of injury.
• Faisal Al Ketbi: The Emirati is a second-year black belt. He returns to the Abu Dhabi event having won a silver at the Grand Slam London and two golds at the West Asian Championships in his last two competitions.
• Mackenzie Dern: The little American stunned women's champion Gabrielle Garcia to end her unbeaten run in the Abu Dhabi World Pro. The Brazilian has since moved to MMA and will not participate in this year's championship.
• Luanna Alzuguir: The Brazilian won the Abu Dhabi World Championship in 2009 and 2010, and then went on to claim all major championships in these two years. She is now based in Abu Dhabi and will be a leading contender for the open class in the absence of Garcia.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
- An Egyptian Mummy mask dating from 700BC-30BC, is on offer for £11,807 ($15,275) online by a seller in Mexico
- A coffin lid dating back to 664BC-332BC was offered for sale by a Colorado-based art dealer, with a starting price of $65,000
- A shabti that was on sale through a Chicago-based coin dealer, dating from 1567BC-1085BC, is up for $1,950
