The Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing team, led by Khaled Al Qubaisi, narrowly missed out on a podium place and a potential victory at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season-opener at Silverstone in Great Britain on Sunday after receiving a time penalty.
On Saturday, the team, comprising Al Qubaisi, Christian Reid and Klaus Bachler, had driven their Porsche 911 RSR into third position on the grid during qualifying in the LMGTE Am class.
At the start of the race on Sunday afternoon, Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing passed the first two cars on the grid and took the lead, which they held onto for nearly three hours.

The team appeared in control of the race until they incurred a time penalty for speeding in the pit lane caused by a malfunction with the speed limiter.
“We had a fantastic start, could not have asked for better,” Khaled Al Qubaisi said after the team finished fifth. “We took advantage of the full course yellow flag and led the race for the first half.
“Unfortunately, we picked up a penalty for speeding in the pit land after the speed limiter malfunctioned when Christian was at the wheel.
“This cost us not only a minute but also a full position. To compound matters, the Astons and Ferraris then passed us.”
Despite the disappointment, Al Qubaisi is optimistic of the team’s chances for the season ahead.
“This is only the first race of the season and aside from the malfunction we have had a good start,” he said. “There are seven more races to go with double the points on offer at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. We will try and make up the deficit along the way.”
The next race is the 6 Hours of Spa on May 2.

How has net migration to UK changed?

How Islam's view of posthumous transplant surgery changed
Transplants from the deceased have been carried out in hospitals across the globe for decades, but in some countries in the Middle East, including the UAE, the practise was banned until relatively recently.
Opinion has been divided as to whether organ donations from a deceased person is permissible in Islam.
The body is viewed as sacred, during and after death, thus prohibiting cremation and tattoos.
One school of thought viewed the removal of organs after death as equally impermissible.

Nepotism is the name of the game

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
- An Egyptian Mummy mask dating from 700BC-30BC, is on offer for £11,807 ($15,275) online by a seller in Mexico
- A coffin lid dating back to 664BC-332BC was offered for sale by a Colorado-based art dealer, with a starting price of $65,000
- A shabti that was on sale through a Chicago-based coin dealer, dating from 1567BC-1085BC, is up for $1,950
Also on December 7 to 9, the third edition of the Gulf Car Festival (www.gulfcarfestival.com) will take over Dubai Festival City Mall, a new venue for the event. Last year's festival brought together about 900 cars worth more than Dh300 million from across the Emirates and wider Gulf region – and that first figure is set to swell by several hundred this time around, with between 1,000 and 1,200 cars expected. The first day is themed around American muscle; the second centres on supercars, exotics, European cars and classics; and the final day will major in JDM (Japanese domestic market) cars, tuned vehicles and trucks. Individuals and car clubs can register their vehicles, although the festival isn’t all static displays, with stunt drifting, a rev battle, car pulls and a burnout competition.
