Roger Varian picked up another Dubai-based owner yesterday as Jim and Fitri Hay agreed to send the Newmarket handler horses to prepare them for racing at the International Carnival at Meydan Racecourse.
Varian already trains for the likes of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid and his brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid, as well as Saif Ali and Saeed Al Tayer.
Varian, who officially took over from Michael Jarvis at Kremlin Stables at the start of the British Flat season in March, saddled Laaheb to finish fourth behind Rewilding in the Dubai Sheema Classic on World Cup night.
"We have sent Roger eight horses, including Tinkertown and None Shall Sleep, as well as a few two year olds," Alex Cole, the racing manager to the Hays, said yesterday. "The intention is to have the horses prepared to race at the Dubai Carnival. It is a process that we hope will work well in the future."
Tinkertown is a three-year-old who has won twice on all-weather surfaces in Britain, most recently when winning a handicap at Kempton in March. None Shall Sleep has one win in five starts.
"I was approached and I've got space in my stables, so it works," Varian said. "We are fortunate to have many owners from Dubai here and it is a privilege to have such owners."
Varian has sent out 26 winners this season from just 95 starters and with nine runners finishing second he has started his career much as Jarvis ended his.
Varian's strike-rate mirrors that of the stable at the end of last season, which sensationally stood at 25 per cent after 349 runners. "I didn't lose any clients when Michael retired so I was in a very good position," said Varian.
"We've got some very nice horses in our stable, which has over 100 horses, some of which can win at the highest level. If I have the right team then I'd love to come out to Dubai, but I wouldn't base myself there during the winter."
Laaheb is entered in the Princess of Wales's Stakes on the first day of Newmarket's three-day July meeting on Thursday, alongside Godolphin's Campanologist and Cavalryman.
On Saturday he has Sheikh Hamdan's Elzaam entered in the Group 1 July Cup. He will line up against Godolphin's Delegator.
