Sven-Goran Eriksson resigned as Notts County's director of football on Thursday night following the club's takeover by Ray Trew.
The former England manager has now taken up the role of joint-life president at the Coca-Cola League Two side.
The former Lincoln City chairman Trew paid a nominal £1 (Dh5.8) for the club, who are believed to have debts totalling more than £1.5million.
New chief executive Jim Rodwell said: "He [Eriksson] has agreed to stay on as joint life president which is a less hands-on role but it gives people an idea of how honourable Sven has been to deal with."
Midfielder Matt Hamshaw also praised the Swede, saying: "He never missed a day's training even in the snow and rain."
The Qatar-backed consortium Munto took over the club last summer with promises of a five-year plan to take County to the Premier League.
The former England manager Eriksson was named director of football and Sol Campbell was the biggest name signing as a host of new players joined the club.
But the new backers pulled out and Peter Trembling, who is close to Eriksson, took over in December.
The club, who visit Premier League side Fulham in the FA Cup tomorrow, are due back in the High Court on February 24 to face a winding-up petition for an unpaid tax bill.
