Ahmed Khalil and his teammates will be looking to put the lessons of the past week into practice when the UAE take on Moldova in a friendly in Salzburg, Austria, tonight.
The UAE have been based in Austria since Saturday as they continue their preparations for the Gulf Cup in November and the Asian Cup in Germany. Srecko Katanec, the manager, will have an opportunity to put his tactics to the test against Moldova, before the more challenging clash against Algeria next Saturday.
Algeria themselves are preparing for next month's World Cup finals, which starts on June 11 in South Africa.
However, Moldova finished at the bottom of their group in the European qualifiers, behind the likes of Luxembourg and Israel. They lost seven of their 10 matches and could manage only three draws.
In their two games since, Moldova have lost to Kazakhstan and were held to a 1-1 draw by Azerbaijan.
Katanec has studied the tapes of the last match and has formulated his strategies, which Khalil is hoping to implement on the pitch.
"This match is very important from a coaching and players' perspective," said Khalil, the striker. "We will be trying to apply all that we have learnt in training. The players are keen to give a good account and get a positive result in the game.
"If we can do that, it will out us in the right frame of mind ahead of the game against Algeria."
The Gulf Cup will be held in Yemen from November 22 and it is the only trophy bearing the name of the UAE senior team. They won it at home in 2007. The Asian Cup starts in Doha on January 7 and UAE's best performance in the continental championship was been a runners-up finish in 1996.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Anxiety and work stress major factors
Anxiety, work stress and social isolation are all factors in the recogised rise in mental health problems.
A study UAE Ministry of Health researchers published in the summer also cited struggles with weight and illnesses as major contributors.
Its authors analysed a dozen separate UAE studies between 2007 and 2017. Prevalence was often higher in university students, women and in people on low incomes.
One showed 28 per cent of female students at a Dubai university reported symptoms linked to depression. Another in Al Ain found 22.2 per cent of students had depressive symptoms - five times the global average.
It said the country has made strides to address mental health problems but said: “Our review highlights the overall prevalence of depressive symptoms and depression, which may long have been overlooked."
Prof Samir Al Adawi, of the department of behavioural medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, who was not involved in the study but is a recognised expert in the Gulf, said how mental health is discussed varies significantly between cultures and nationalities.
“The problem we have in the Gulf is the cross-cultural differences and how people articulate emotional distress," said Prof Al Adawi.
“Someone will say that I have physical complaints rather than emotional complaints. This is the major problem with any discussion around depression."
