Mohammed Shehab cruised into the quarter-finals of the first ever ENOC UAE Snooker Ranking Circuit tournament with a convincing victory over Essa Ali Sayed last night.
He will be joined in the last eight by young Khalid Kamali, who whitewashed the No 12 ranked Marwan Ibrahim, while Salem Ali, the No 5 seed, squandered a 3-1 advantage to lose to Salem bin Zeban
Shehab, the top ranked player in the country, was in a fine form at the Dubai Snooker Club against Essa and won the first two frames with ease before the No 6 seed took the third.
The fourth frame was decided on the black before the No 1 seed produced a break of 77 in the fifth to take the match 4-1.
Kamali, the No 4 seed, set off in style with a break of 77 in the first frame and Ibrahim was unable to recover as the 19 year old raced to a highly impressive 4-0 victory.
Bin Zeban set up a quarter-final clash with Shehab after clawing his way back from the brink of elimination.
Salem had taken a 3-1 lead before bin Zeban reeled off three frames in a row to beat the UAE national team player 4-3.
The remaining five last-16 round matches were to be played tonight with the quarter-finals taking place tomorrow night at the same venue.
