Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reacted mirthfully after being handed a list of suggested transfer targets by a disabled supporter during a recent charity event.
A video published on United’s website shows Van Gaal and several first-team players meeting fans suffering from life-limiting illnesses at the club’s Carrington training base as part of a “Dream Day” organised by the Manchester United Foundation.
One fan hands Van Gaal a sheet of paper listing players with whom United have been linked, including Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale.
Van Gaal thanks the fan and pockets the list, saying: “Hummels, [Nathaniel] Clyne, Pogba, Bale, [Memphis] Depay, Jackson Martinez? Thank you for this. I’ll bear it in mind. You are smart.”
The Dutchman later says to the camera: “He didn’t tell me who I have to sell, but after a little bit of pushing, I know. So it’s easy for me. Next year we are the champion!”
Another part of the clip shows United’s afro-haired midfielder Marouane Fellaini meeting a young fan who asks him: “Is your hair real or is it a wig?”
The Belgium international replies: “Yes, it’s real.”
