ABU DHABI // Al Wahda have re-instated Marcelo Oliveira to their squad for the second half of the season, after Eric Mouloungui, the Gabon international, suffered an injury setback.
The Brazilian former Sharjah striker was signed in the summer as cover for Mouloungui, who suffered an ankle injury that required surgery during the team's preseason camp in Germany.
Marcelo Oliveira then lost his spot as one of Wahda's three overseas players when Mouloungui returned for his first game for the four-time league champions in the 1-0 defeat to Al Ain in the Etisalat Cup on January 17.
However, he was substituted in the 79th minute in that game and did not feature in the 3-2 win over Al Shaab last week.
Pro League clubs had to name their three foreign players and one Asian player for the second half of the season by the end of the winter transfer window, which closed on Monday.
That squad list cannot be changed midseason, even if a club owns more than three foreign players, unless an injury report can prove that one of them is unable to play again that season.
"Marcelo is back in the squad of the remainder of the season as Eric has aggravated the injury," Abdulla Salem, the team manager, said.
"Eric has a three-year contract and will remain with us. Marcelo too has a three-year contract. It is quite unfortunate to lose Eric but on the positive side we were fortunate to have a standby.
"Marcelo has done a good job for us when he came in as a cover for Eric and he can continue the good work for the rest of the season without any problems."
