Manchester United youngster Saidy Janko seals Celtic switch: ‘Even Messi and Xavi dream about Celtic Park’

Saidy Janko says there was no way he could resist his Celtic switch after listening to players like Lionel Messi and Xavi rave about Celtic Park.

The 19-year-old full-back has penned a four-year deal with the Glasgow club after quitting Manchester United.

The Swiss youth international says the lure of potential Uefa Champions League action and the chance to work with manager Ronny Deila were all decisive factors in his move north.

But he revealed it was the words of Barcelona’s superstar duo following the Catalan outfit’s 2-1 Parkhead defeat in November 2012 which convinced him to kick-start his career north of the border.

Xavi claimed he had “never seen anything like the Celtic fans” following their side’s famous win, while four-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi says the Scottish club’s home ground produces the best atmosphere anywhere on the continent.

“I’m looking forward to the atmosphere and the fans hopefully on a Champions League night or even league days,” Janko said. “Even players like Messi and Xavi dream about the atmosphere at Celtic Park, so I’m looking forward to that.

“I was quite happy to stay at Manchester United, but Celtic is hard to resist. I’m in the first team everyday I’ll train with them and hopefully get in the first XI.

“At Man United it’s a bit more difficult.”
