MINNEAPOLIS // Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love overcame a bruised left knee to set an NBA record with his 52nd consecutive double-double in a 101-75 win over the Indiana Pacers.
Playing with a brace on his left knee, Love wasted little time grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring his 10th point near the midway mark of the second quarter to surpass Moses Malone, who set the previous record, over two seasons, in 1979.
Love, who finished the game with 16 points and 21 rebounds, injured his knee on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks and was not sure if he would play until shortly before the game.
Carmelo Anthony redeemed himself for a needless foul by sinking the winning basket with under a second to play as the New York Knicks salvaged a 110-108 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies tied the score at 108 with 14 seconds left when Zach Randolph was fouled by Anthony while shooting a two-point basket and he completed the three-point play by hitting the free throw.
The Knicks held a 14-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter but allowed the Grizzlies to get back into the game at the free throw line where they converted all 10 opportunities in the quarter.
Anthony had a game-high 31 points and Amar'e Stoudemire added 26, while Tony Allen led the Grizzlies with 22 points and Darrell Arthur came off the bench to score 21 points, including 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Jarrett Jack hit three free throws to complete an unlikely 8-0 New Orleans run inside the final 1:13, as the Hornets completed a stunning 110-108 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Hornets trailed 92-85, then Marco Belinelli hit a three and Emeka Okafor put back Belinelli's missed reverse layup.
Dallas' Tyson Chandler, who had 16 points and 13 rebounds in his return from a sprained ankle, missed two free throws with 17 seconds to go, leaving the game up for grabs.
Jason Kidd fouled Jack on a three-point attempt, setting up Jack's decisive free throws with 8.4 seconds left. Jack finished with 21 points.
Dallas still had one more chance to win it, but for the second time in New Orleans this season, Dirk Nowitzki was unable to convert.
Elsewhere, A 20-13 final quarter set up the New Jersey Nets for a 94-90 success over the Golden State Warriors, with Brook Lopez (26) and Anthony Morrow (22) leading the effort.
The Utah Jazz won the final quarter 26-16 to come from behind and defeat the Toronto Raptors 96-94 at Air Canada Center.
The Orlando Magic also saved the best until last, with a 30-23 final quarter earning them a 106-102 win over the Sacramento Kings, for whom DeMarcus Cousins (29) was the game's top scorer.
The Chicago Bulls defeated the Charlotte Bobcats 101-84 and the Los Angeles Clippers saw off the Boston Celtics 108-103.
Kevin Durant (34) and Russell Westbrook (27) led the scoring as the Oklahoma City Thunder scored a 110-105 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center.
The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-90, with a 39-22 second quarter doing most of the damage, while the San Antonio Spurs downed the Detroit Pistons 111-104.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.

The flights
Direct flights from the UAE to the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, are available with Air Arabia, (www.airarabia.com) Fly Dubai (www.flydubai.com) or Etihad (www.etihad.com) from Dh1,200 return including taxes. The trek described here started from Jomson, but there are many other start and end point variations depending on how you tailor your trek. To get to Jomson from Kathmandu you must first fly to the lake-side resort town of Pokhara with either Buddha Air (www.buddhaair.com) or Yeti Airlines (www.yetiairlines.com). Both charge around US$240 (Dh880) return. From Pokhara there are early morning flights to Jomson with Yeti Airlines or Simrik Airlines (www.simrikairlines.com) for around US$220 (Dh800) return.
The trek
Restricted area permits (US$500 per person) are required for trekking in the Upper Mustang area. The challenging Meso Kanto pass between Tilcho Lake and Jomson should not be attempted by those without a lot of mountain experience and a good support team. An excellent trekking company with good knowledge of Upper Mustang, the Annaurpuna Circuit and Tilcho Lake area and who can help organise a version of the trek described here is the Nepal-UK run Snow Cat Travel (www.snowcattravel.com). Prices vary widely depending on accommodation types and the level of assistance required.
