ABU DHABI // Philippe Barbe has quietly made his mark in the capital since moving to neighbouring Oman early this season. The French trainer claimed his third major prize with Kerbelle Lotoise, under another Frenchman, David Badel, as the filly won the Group Three Arabian Triple Crown Round Three last night at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club's penultimate meeting of the season. Barbe, who took charge of the Royal Cavalry of Oman stables in October, had already claimed the Group Three Al Ruwais Sprint and the Arabian Triple Crown Round Two.

"The [filly's] first outing in the second leg of the race series a fortnight ago and the extra furlong to travel suited her," the jockey Badel said of Kerbelle Lotoise. "We were well placed in second and she had the extra in her tank to go into the lead." Neferman made every yard of the running under Wancelas Walter, the French apprentice, before he was caught close to home by Badel. Sama Bu Dhabi finished a long way behind in third and the favourite, Naseem Al Reef, came in a disappointing last in the four-runner event.

Tadhg O'Shea, who is in a tussle with Royston Ffrench for the jockeys' championship, extended his lead with a splendid double to take his tally to 34, four more than his rival. The Irishman rode AF Raad to victory in the final leg of the Al Wathba Stud Farm series for private owners and came in with a blistering late run to take the concluding event on Ali al Raihe's Ramadi. It was the solitary thoroughbred prize of the night.

Wayne Smith also rode a double, claiming the opener on Bakhit al Ketbi's GRP Baghdad and the fifth race on Bareq for Musabah al Muhairi. apassela@thenational.ae

WHAT IS A BLACK HOLE?

1. Black holes are objects whose gravity is so strong not even light can escape their pull

2. They can be created when massive stars collapse under their own weight

3. Large black holes can also be formed when smaller ones collide and merge

4. The biggest black holes lurk at the centre of many galaxies, including our own

5. Astronomers believe that when the universe was very young, black holes affected how galaxies formed

Why your domicile status is important

Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.

Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.

UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.

A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.
