Pakistan's young left arm pacer Rumman Raees is talked about as the pacer to watch in the Pakistan Super League. He has produced a great spell in domestic cricket and will spearhead the bowling of the Islamabad United team.
Raees is enjoying being part of a strong team like Islamabad and getting guidance from legends like Wasim Akram, whom he called a “legend, world class”.
“Today was the first session and I felt so good. It was new staff, new management and I underwent something different from domestic training. Short and high intensity training, frankly I really enjoyed it,” he said on Monday night.
Raees is hoping to use the PSL to win a place in the Pakistan national team. He has played in 40 first class matches and taken 116 wickets at a 25.93 average. “This is a great opportunity. In domestic there are many young fast bowlers and if I can perform here I can win a place in the national tream.
“The management has given me a lot of confidence and hence I am under no pressure.”
The determination to go for the kills is in Raee’s voice when asked whom will he target.
“There are lot of very good players in other teams. There are international players in other teams and also many of Pakistan’s international players. I will target everyone,” he said.
When asked about his own team, he added: “Our team is a balanced one. Be it openers or middle order, fast or spin all look equally strong when compared with the rest of the teams. I am confident of our team winning the final.”
More than winning the final, Raees is hoping to return to Pakistan after PSL with happy memories.
“We have not seen or interacted with many international players – through PSL we will get the chance and also learn a lot from them. I am so happy that PSL, over which we talked about for so long, is finally happening.”
Karachi-born Raees, 24, rose through the ranks with Karachi Blues in Pakistan domestic cricket and now plies his first-class trade with United Bank Limited. He has played for Karachi Dolphins recently in the Pakistani Twenty20 domestic competition.
His most recent T20 play came with Pakistan A against England Lions in Dubai in December, where he turned in a promising spell with eight wickets for 120 runs in 15 overs across four matches.
