Islamabad United got their Pakistan Super League campaign off to a winning start against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday night.
The defending champions were victorious by seven wickets – thanks to the Duckworth/Lewis method in a match that was delayed by technical issues at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Peshawar had posted 190 for nine in their 20 overs before Islamabad reached their revised target of 173 with two balls remaining.
Kamran Akmal’s 88 had given Peshawar hope before a collapse cost them crucial runs.
Brad Haddin (73) and Dwayne Smith (55) did the damage with the bat for Islamabad after Shane Watson had taken four wickets for 44 runs.
Sam Billings got the winning runs in a close finish that meant Islamabad picked up two points and Peshawar remain on zero.
