A superb 80 from Quinton de Kock helped Lucknow Super Giants seal a six-wicket Indian Premier League victory over Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on Thursday.
The South African opener looked set to carry his bat right through the innings after Delhi were restricted to 149-3 in their 20 overs at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.
But De Kock's 51-ball innings came to an end with his side needing 27 for victory with four overs left and an unbeaten 19 from Krunal Pandya saw them over the line with two balls left with the winning runs coming from a big Ayush Badoni six over extra-cover.
It was Lucknow's third win in four games and leaves them second in the table behind Kolkata Knight Riders only on run rate.
“I think we were brilliant [with the ball], but powerplay is something we have to work on,” said captain KL Rahul after the match. “We showed a lot of character but after the powerplay, the bowlers had a good chat and knew what lines and lengths to bowl and executed well.
“We just like to know what to chase. Dew factor does play on the minds of team and everyone chooses to bowl first because of that.
“Last game there wasn't much dew here and we got lucky. Today, there was a lot of dew and I think everyone likes chasing.”
Opener Prithvi Shaw top-scored for Delhi in their innings with 61 off 34 balls - including nine fours and two sixes - but tight bowling from the likes of Krishnappa Gowtham (1-23) and Ravi Bishnoi (2-22) restricted the scoring.
An unbeaten partnership between captain Risbah Pant (39) and Avesh Khan (36) dragged the team to 149 after they lost David Warner (four) and Rovman Powell (three) cheaply.
“Obviously when the dew is like that, you can't complain,” admitted Pant. “But as a batting unit, we were 10-15 runs short.”

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid
Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.
Following the single’s success, the idea to stage a rock concert evolved.
Live Aid was a series of simultaneous concerts that took place at Wembley Stadium in London, John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, the US, and at various other venues across the world.
The combined event was broadcast to an estimated worldwide audience of 1.5 billion.
