Palace Pier claimed victory in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville on Sunday to complete successive Group 1 victories and extend the perfect start to his career to five races.
The Kingman colt, in the silks of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed and ridden by Frankie Dettori, produced a strong run from the back of the seven-runner field to win from Alpine Star by three-quarter lengths over the mile trip.
Circus Maximus finished third ahead of Godolphin’s Persian King.
Dettori’s decision to forego the Ebor meeting at York and instead to head to France was justified with a Group 2 win atop Mishriff on Saturday followed by Palace Pier’s success.
The veteran Italian jockey will now have to self-quarantine for seven days on his return.
“I made the right choice to come [to Deauville],” Dettori said. “I knew I had two super horses and they both won, and I was very taken by Palace Pier's performance today.
“The ground was testing, and he put it to bed in great style. I love the horse. He's very cool, he's got a good cruising speed, a great kick, nothing fazes him.”
The field went a decent pace on the heavy ground, with Pretreville setting the early pace for much of the way before Stephane Pasquier moved Alpine Star to the lead.
Jessica Harrington’s filly raced strongly in front but did not have enough to challenge Palace Pier towards the end.
“Palace Pier is a special horse,” Dettori added. “We went a good gallop on testing ground. I asked him to get closer and before I knew it, I was two lengths in front so it just shows what he can do.
“He's a lovely horse to be around and has delivered a lot. Alpine Star is very good and I'm not surprised they finished first and second.”
Dettori suggested the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot could be next for John Gosden’s runner.
“The QEII would be an obvious target knowing that he handles soft ground,” he said. “He's only run five times so I hope he stays in training as he has a lot more to offer.”

Clinical psychologist, Dr Saliha Afridi at The Lighthouse Arabia suggests three easy things you can do every day to cut back on the time you spend online.
1. Put the social media app in a folder on the second or third screen of your phone so it has to remain a conscious decision to open, rather than something your fingers gravitate towards without consideration.
2. Schedule a time to use social media instead of consistently throughout the day. I recommend setting aside certain times of the day or week when you upload pictures or share information.
3. Take a mental snapshot rather than a photo on your phone. Instead of sharing it with your social world, try to absorb the moment, connect with your feeling, experience the moment with all five of your senses. You will have a memory of that moment more vividly and for far longer than if you take a picture of it.

What is blockchain?
Blockchain is a form of distributed ledger technology, a digital system in which data is recorded across multiple places at the same time. Unlike traditional databases, DLTs have no central administrator or centralised data storage. They are transparent because the data is visible and, because they are automatically replicated and impossible to be tampered with, they are secure.
The main difference between blockchain and other forms of DLT is the way data is stored as ‘blocks’ – new transactions are added to the existing ‘chain’ of past transactions, hence the name ‘blockchain’. It is impossible to delete or modify information on the chain due to the replication of blocks across various locations.
Blockchain is mostly associated with cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Due to the inability to tamper with transactions, advocates say this makes the currency more secure and safer than traditional systems. It is maintained by a network of people referred to as ‘miners’, who receive rewards for solving complex mathematical equations that enable transactions to go through.
However, one of the major problems that has come to light has been the presence of illicit material buried in the Bitcoin blockchain, linking it to the dark web.
Other blockchain platforms can offer things like smart contracts, which are automatically implemented when specific conditions from all interested parties are reached, cutting the time involved and the risk of mistakes. Another use could be storing medical records, as patients can be confident their information cannot be changed. The technology can also be used in supply chains, voting and has the potential to used for storing property records.
