SYDNEY // Brad Haddin will be given the chance to lead Australia for the first time today when they play New Zealand in a one-off Twenty20. The wicketkeeper-batsman, 31, has established himself as Australia's first choice behind the stumps in recent times and his status will be further enhanced when he captains his country on his home ground. Haddin's promotion comes following a Chappell-Hadlee series during which he impressed with the bat but also courted controversy. The New South Wales player thrived following his mid-series elevation to the top of the order, scoring his maiden ODI century in the third match, but also came under fire after game one when he appeared to flick off the bails when Neil Broom was incorrectly given out bowled.
Regardless of that, Haddin has the backing of regular skipper Ricky Ponting to fill his shoes, with the Tasmanian resting before the team fly out for their tour of South Africa tomorrow. "He brings a lot of experience and he has a lot of leadership qualities," Ponting said. "He thinks about the game." Australia will also be without the vice-captain Michael Clarke, who will sit out on the orders of team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris after he suffered back pain in Tuesday's game in Adelaide, as well as Mike Hussey (rested) and Mitchell Johnson (ankle).
"It's unfortunate that Michael Clarke has been forced to miss the game due to injury," the Australia national selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said. "Given the side leaves for South Africa the morning after, there was no alternative but to take a conservative approach to management of this minor injury. "Mitchell has not been replaced in the squad as we consider a squad of 12 for the game is adequate given the bowling strength available within the group."
The withdrawals of Clarke and Johnson have left Australia with a 12-man squad, meaning Rob Quiney is in line for an international debut. The Victoria batsman, 26, hit 91 off 56 balls in the final of Australia's Twenty20 competition last month. He has also signed up for Rajasthan Royals yesterday along with Shane Harwood and Lee Carseldine. The defending champions of the Indian Premier League signed up Quiney and added his two compatriots as replacements for Pakistan's Kamran Akmal and Sohail Tanvir.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
What is the FNC?
The Federal National Council is one of five federal authorities established by the UAE constitution. It held its first session on December 2, 1972, a year to the day after Federation.
It has 40 members, eight of whom are women. The members represent the UAE population through each of the emirates. Abu Dhabi and Dubai have eight members each, Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah six, and Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain have four.
They bring Emirati issues to the council for debate and put those concerns to ministers summoned for questioning.
The FNC’s main functions include passing, amending or rejecting federal draft laws, discussing international treaties and agreements, and offering recommendations on general subjects raised during sessions.
Federal draft laws must first pass through the FNC for recommendations when members can amend the laws to suit the needs of citizens. The draft laws are then forwarded to the Cabinet for consideration and approval.
Since 2006, half of the members have been elected by UAE citizens to serve four-year terms and the other half are appointed by the Ruler’s Courts of the seven emirates.
In the 2015 elections, 78 of the 252 candidates were women. Women also represented 48 per cent of all voters and 67 per cent of the voters were under the age of 40.
