Mario Gomez did not need to think twice about making the move from Stuttgart to Bayern Munich despite receiving offers from Serie A and the Premier League.
Gomez will move for around ?30million (Dh153m) as soon as the clubs can agree on the technicalities of the deal and the striker, who is on international duty for Germany in China,said it was always his wish to join Bayern.
"I saw no need and had no desire to move abroad," he said.
"I am moving because I want to take the next step in my career and Bayern are the German club who can hold their own in Europe.
"I had offers from Italy, England and Bayern and I only needed two days to decide.
"Bayern have been interested in me for the last two years, even after a bad European Championship, and this is also why I didn't go abroad."
Gomez's transfer became an issue after the sides met on the final day of the Bundesliga season on Saturday, but Gomez insists he had always concentrated on his job with Stuttgart.
"I'm a sportsman who wants to win everything possible and this chance is better in Munich than in Stuttgart," he said.
"I know there will be some fans in Stuttgart who are disappointed, but they have got to remember that I gave everything for the club until the very last day.
"I knew clubs were interested, but until after the final game of the season, I did not want to know or hear anything about it.
"I wanted to concentrate on Stuttgart to the very end. My decision was only made between Saturday night and Tuesday."
Gomez scored against Bayern on Saturday, his 24th goal of the season. However, he will get the chance to play alongside Stuttgart teammate Cacau again.
The pair are likely to lead the line for Germany against China tomorrow and, after clicking in the Bundesliga, Gomez hopes Cacau can help him end a goal drought for the national team which has endured for over a year.
Gomez last found the back of the net for Joachim Loew's team against Switzerland last March. "I'm sitting here now because Cacau plays for Stuttgart, I have a lot to thank him for," he said.
"I'm who I am thanks to him. He has supported me for three years and we hit it off from the very beginning.
"I'm just an inch from scoring and I don't know what the reason is, but as soon as I do score again, the floodgates will open.
"But I'm not taking it all that seriously. Since we played Liechtenstein, I'm more relaxed about it."

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
