The UAE’s professional golfers will be given the opportunity to win a place at a tournament in Equatorial Guinea later this year by competing in this week’s ‘Road to Mongomo’ at Al Badia Golf Club.

The top five finishers in the September 22 event, open to any pro golfer, will seal an all-expenses paid trip to the 3eActuaries Open, which runs from December 8-11 and has a prize fund of $150,000 (Dh716,300).

Mena Golf Tour’s Luke Joy played the 3eActuaries Open on invite last year and placed fourth. He said: “The 3e Actuaries Open was a fantastic event to attend in 2015 and I know it will be even bigger and better for 2016. I’m really looking forward to playing the course again as it’s a great layout and will be great to see some other professionals joining me from the UAE.”

3e Actuaries Open tournament host, Olawale Opayinka, added: “As we continue to tirelessly grow the professional game here in Equatorial Guinea and our region of Africa, we are thrilled that this year we will be joined by more professional golfers from the UAE like Luke Joy in December.

“Our hearts remain wide open to welcome all to Mongomo and we believe it will be a very rewarding experience for those who make it.”

Entry to Thursday's 'Road to Mongomo' qualifier, which is sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation, costs Dh195. Presented by Worldwide Golf, it begins with a 1pm shotgun start at Al Badia.
