A charity match involving Tiger Woods, Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson and Peyton Manning has raised $20 million (Dh73.4m) for Covid-19 relief.

The exhibition tussle, which pitted Woods and Manning against Mickelson and Brady, took place at Medalist Golf Club in Florida and concluded with the former pairing eking out a 1-up win.

Billed "The Match: Champions For Charity", Sunday night’s contest was a huge hit online. Originally setting out to raise $10m, online donations – at one point world No 3 Brooks Koepka donated $100,000 – ensured it reached double that amount.

Woods and Manning took the early lead in the clash of golf and NFL rivals courtesy of some impressive putting from former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Manning, who plays off a six handicap.

His Tampa Bay Buccaneers counterpart provided most of the laughs through the first six holes, though, as Brady, who claimed to play off 8.5, struggled to find his swing - and the fairway.

However, the six-time Super Bowl champion soon provided the highlight of the night, holing out for birdie on the par-5 seventh from around 150 yards. Koepka had just tweeted that he would give $100,000 to the charity if Brady made a par on the front nine.

Clearly buoyed by that, Brady and Mickelson rebounded to eventually narrow the gap through the back nine and enter the 18th only one hole down.

Yet Woods, the reigning Masters champion, lagged a long birdie putt to within one foot to ensure a final tap-in from Manning was not required.

The result means Woods draws level at 1-1 in his exhibition TV matches against Mickelson after the five-time major champion, won their $9m winner-take-all meet in Las Vegas in 2018.
