Nicolai Hojgaard lays down Law in Ras Al Khaimah

Nicolai Hojgaard birdied five of the last six holes in Round 3 to give himself a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the first Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital.

The 20-year-old Dane is zeroing in on his second win on the DP World Tour, having reached 20-under par thanks to an 8-under 64 on Saturday.

Hojgaard, whose twin brother Rasmus is back in 11th place on 11-under par, was satisfied with his day’s work, but cautioned against thinking the job is already done.

“I’m driving really well at the moment so I’m trying to play quite aggressive and the last two days have been good off the tees,” Hojgaard said.

“That’s the reason why I’m shooting all these good scores at the moment. It was pretty good out there.

”You want to be in these positions in the final round, but it’s 18 more holes and a lot can happen in 18 holes.

“I’ve heard it will be a little more windy so you never know. I’m going to try and do the same things out on the course, commit and free up and then I’ll feel like I have a good chance.”

Hojgaard will be joined in the last match out at Al Hamra Golf Club by Scotland's David Law, whom he leapfrogged at the top of the leaderboard over the closing holes on Saturday.

Law carded his first bogey in 33 holes when he made six at the 18th in his third round, to drop back to 17-under for the tournament.

“It’s annoying to finish like that,” Law said. “I played pretty good until the last four holes and then I struggled.

“I got a bit greedy, and thought we could maybe nick it with a three wood, chase it up the front and make a four which is a mentality you want to have.

“I probably shouldn’t have taken that shot on, but if I had that shot again I’d probably do it again, too.”

What is the FNC?

The Federal National Council is one of five federal authorities established by the UAE constitution. It held its first session on December 2, 1972, a year to the day after Federation.
It has 40 members, eight of whom are women. The members represent the UAE population through each of the emirates. Abu Dhabi and Dubai have eight members each, Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah six, and Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain have four.
They bring Emirati issues to the council for debate and put those concerns to ministers summoned for questioning.
The FNC’s main functions include passing, amending or rejecting federal draft laws, discussing international treaties and agreements, and offering recommendations on general subjects raised during sessions.
Federal draft laws must first pass through the FNC for recommendations when members can amend the laws to suit the needs of citizens. The draft laws are then forwarded to the Cabinet for consideration and approval.
Since 2006, half of the members have been elected by UAE citizens to serve four-year terms and the other half are appointed by the Ruler’s Courts of the seven emirates.
In the 2015 elections, 78 of the 252 candidates were women. Women also represented 48 per cent of all voters and 67 per cent of the voters were under the age of 40.
