Alun-Wyn Jones, the giant Ospreys lock, will become the youngest forward to captain his country in 75 years when Wales play Italy in Rome.
Jones takes over from Wales' 2008 Six Nations captain Ryan Jones, who finds himself on the bench, and will lead a side showing nine changes and one positional switch following defeat against France in Paris last time out.
And Scarlets wing Mark Jones, one of the raft of players called up by Wales coach Warren Gatland, has no doubt the reigning champions are in safe hands.
"He is an excellent player," said Jones. "I've got huge respect for him. He always works hard and speaks very well, too.
"He will do a tremendous job, I am sure. He leads by his own performance, and that is about all you can ask."
Wales are widely expected to cruise past an Italian side who have lost their three Six Nations games this season, conceding 100 points and 12 tries in the process.
Italy coach Nick Mallett has handed uncapped Giulio Rubini a starting berth for the game, the Parma utility back replacing Mirco Bergamasco at No 14, with the latter shifting to centre.
Mallett has made one other change from the team who lost 26-6 against Scotland at Murrayfield, with Carlos Nieto replacing Martin Castrogiovanni in Italy's starting XV.
Scotland's highly rated Max Evans and Jim Hamilton are relishing the prospect of lining up against Ireland greats Brian O'Driscoll and Paul O'Connell at Murrayfield tomorrow.
Evans will go head-to-head with fellow centre O'Driscoll for the first time, while Hamilton is looking forward to renewing hostilities with O'Connell in the second row.
"I'm really excited," said Evans. "The fact I haven't played against O'Driscoll yet in any of the Magners League games seems a bit crazy. In a way, it's almost a good thing for me because he hasn't played against me either."
Edinburgh lock Hamilton believes the Ireland match will give him an idea of how he rates against the world's best.
"They base their game a lot around Paul O'Connell," said Hamilton. "He is the cornerstone of their team.
"Everything from the line-out, to carrying the ball, to resetting the game - it all goes to him.
"I've played against him a few times and testing yourself against the best guy in your position arguably in the world at the minute, you can't ask any more, can you?
"That's where I find out where I'm at."
Lawrence Dallaglio is perplexed by Martin Johnson's decision to drop Paul Sackey in favour of Ugo Monye for England's game against France on Sunday.
"If I was Paul Sackey I would feel quite hard done by, I would feel quite upset," said Dallaglio.
"They have argued Paul's form is not up to scratch - but they have replaced him with a player who has hardly played. I am slightly confused by that."

Find the right policy for you
Don’t wait until the week you fly to sign up for insurance – get it when you book your trip. Insurance covers you for cancellation and anything else that can go wrong before you leave.
Some insurers, such as World Nomads, allow you to book once you are travelling – but, as Mr Mohammed found out, pre-existing medical conditions are not covered.
Check your credit card before booking insurance to see if you have any travel insurance as a benefit – most UAE banks, such as Emirates NBD, First Abu Dhabi Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, have cards that throw in insurance as part of their package. But read the fine print – they may only cover emergencies while you’re travelling, not cancellation before a trip.
Pre-existing medical conditions such as a heart condition, diabetes, epilepsy and even asthma may not be included as standard. Again, check the terms, exclusions and limitations of any insurance carefully.
If you want trip cancellation or curtailment, baggage loss or delay covered, you may need a higher-grade plan, says Ambareen Musa of Souqalmal.com. Decide how much coverage you need for emergency medical expenses or personal liability. Premium insurance packages give up to $1 million (Dh3.7m) in each category, Ms Musa adds.
Don’t wait for days to call your insurer if you need to make a claim. You may be required to notify them within 72 hours. Gather together all receipts, emails and reports to prove that you paid for something, that you didn’t use it and that you did not get reimbursed.
Finally, consider optional extras you may need, says Sarah Pickford of Travel Counsellors, such as a winter sports holiday. Also ensure all individuals can travel independently on that cover, she adds. And remember: “Cheap isn’t necessarily best.”

Anxiety and work stress major factors
Anxiety, work stress and social isolation are all factors in the recogised rise in mental health problems.
A study UAE Ministry of Health researchers published in the summer also cited struggles with weight and illnesses as major contributors.
Its authors analysed a dozen separate UAE studies between 2007 and 2017. Prevalence was often higher in university students, women and in people on low incomes.
One showed 28 per cent of female students at a Dubai university reported symptoms linked to depression. Another in Al Ain found 22.2 per cent of students had depressive symptoms - five times the global average.
It said the country has made strides to address mental health problems but said: “Our review highlights the overall prevalence of depressive symptoms and depression, which may long have been overlooked."
Prof Samir Al Adawi, of the department of behavioural medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, who was not involved in the study but is a recognised expert in the Gulf, said how mental health is discussed varies significantly between cultures and nationalities.
“The problem we have in the Gulf is the cross-cultural differences and how people articulate emotional distress," said Prof Al Adawi.
“Someone will say that I have physical complaints rather than emotional complaints. This is the major problem with any discussion around depression."
