Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard hit goals early in either half as West Ham United continued their pursuit of Champions League football with a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Antonio opened the scoring at the London Stadium in the fifth minute, after profiting from a fine cross by Jarrod Bowen.

Lingard continued his fine start to his loan spell at West Ham as he scored with the home side’s first attack of the second half. It was initially ruled out for offside, but reinstated after a VAR referral showed no infringement.

Lucas Moura scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for Spurs when he headed home a corner from substitute Gareth Bale.

West Ham manager David Moyes said: "It is a great result for us. Today we felt it was a big, big task. Tottenham are one of the top sides and have fantastic players. For us to get a result and keep our momemtum going is really good."

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho said: "The team in the second half was trying absolutely everything. We had the chances, hitting the post, great crosses across the face of goal. We had easy shooting positions to score so we should have scored more goals.

"It is very difficult to think about the top four. The top six teams are getting points. It will be very hard," Mourinho said.

"The Europa League is a great motivation to get a Champions League spot and a trophy at the same time."
