Jurgen Klopp challenges Liverpool to 'make another step' to keep Premier League rivals at bay

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said there is no time for the club to stand still as the German turns his attention to defending the Premier League title next season.

Liverpool last month ended a 30-year wait for an English championship title but had to wait until Wednesday evening to get their hands on the trophy. The title celebrations began in earnest after a pulsating 5-3 win over Chelsea at Anfield as players danced on the pitch and fans gathered outside.

The Reds were emphatic in winning the title, doing so with seven games to spare, but Klopp insists his team must keep improving if they are to see off the challenge of their rivals next season.

"We should not stop, we have internal challenges to improve," he said. "We have the chance to make another step, but we have to because the others will not sleep."

Wednesday's opponents Chelsea have already strengthened for next season with the signings of German striker Timo Werner and Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech. Klopp also expects Manchester City and Manchester United to bolster their squads.

"Chelsea is such a talented team, we had to bring everything on the pitch," the German said. "Man United, Man City [will contend], there are no guarantees for anything, but we will try."

While already having one eye on the new season, Klopp admitted he will take time for a special memento after an incredible run of success that has seen Liverpool become English, European, and world champions.

"We are champions of England, Europe and the world. We won four trophies, really big ones, so I couldn't be more proud," he said.

"I'm usually not a person who needs pictures but I will have a picture with all four trophies because it doesn't happen often, so we should."
