Much to the relief of manager Mikel Arteta and every Arsenal fan, club captain and top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally signed a new contract in the summer.
Months of speculation was ended when the Gabon striker agreed a new three-year deal and a salary that could see him become the highest earner at the Emirates.
While his basic wage is still less than Mesut Ozil's mind-boggling money, despite the German being omitted from the Premier League and Europa League squads, it is widely reported that Aubameyang, 31, will take over at the top once loyalty payments and bonuses are included.
Two of the Gunners' summer signings – Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid and Willian who left Premier League rivals Chelsea – have also arrived in North London on contracts that take them into the highest earners bracket, ahead of French attacker Alexandre Lacazette.
One big earner at the club is Sokratis Papastathopoulos, despite the Greek defender having not played a single minute for the first team this season and, like Ozil, is not part of the domestic or European squads.
